Three Italian beaches among the 50 most beautiful in the world, including Conigli Island in Lampedusa

Three of the 50 most beautiful beaches in the world are in Italy: two in Sardinia, Cala Mariolu and Cala Goloritzè, and one in Sicily, in Lampedusa, the beach of the Rabbits.
And in Europe, only Greece can count two beaches in the ranking. This is confirmed by the American website worlds50beaches.com which awards the second place to Cala Mariolu, 19th place to Cala Goloritzè, on the same coast of Baunei, in Ogliastra, while the beach of the Rabbits is ranked 50th.
“Our 2024 list is the culmination of countless days spent by our judges, Beach Ambassadors, and the World’s 50 Beaches team exploring beaches around the world – it is written in the presentation of the result of the American website. – We hope that this list provides the inspiration needed to plan your next beach vacation.

The mayor of Baunei, Stefano Monni, rejoices, a town on the Ogliastra coast that enchants with its landscapes overlooking the sea, white sandy beaches, and crystal clear waters, most of which are only accessible by the sea and with limited numbers. “For Baunei, this is an important recognition that brings the town and our beaches to the world stage,” comments the mayor. “For us, the duty to safeguard these beaches is increasing, as we have long been pioneers in the need to preserve a dream but fragile ecosystem.”

For some years, the municipal administration has introduced limited numbers on the two beaches: at Cala Goloritzè, which is only accessible by land, a maximum of 250 people can stay at a time, only by reservation; while at Cala Mariolu, there are 700 people who can be on the beach, arriving both by sea and by land. “I would like to invite tourists to visit not only the beaches but also the inland,” adds Mayor Monni. “This is a territory that can be enjoyed in all its beauty if you start from the interior to reach the coast when a breathtaking spectacle opens up. This is why hiking tourism is to be preferred.”
