In English: Messina: Car crashes through a wall and teeters on Viale Italia, damaging gas pipes.
#Messina
A near tragedy occurred yesterday evening in Messina. A driver had parked their car on Via Ippocrate, reportedly without engaging the handbrake, and had exited the vehicle. However, the car slipped and hit a wall, coming to a stop. If the masonry barrier hadn’t contained the force of the vehicle, it would have fallen from a height of 10 meters onto Viale Italia, a busy road.
The car remained in a precarious position, and emergency services were immediately alerted, while the area below was cordoned off. Debris fell onto some parked cars, but fortunately, there were no pedestrians present.
The collapse of the wall also caused the gas pipes to rupture, posing an additional danger to those in the vicinity as methane gas leaked out, creating a risk of fire. Firefighters arrived at the scene and secured the vehicle to prevent it from falling, while they waited for a towing truck to remove it. Municipal police officers and personnel from Italgas, the gas company, also arrived to repair the pipeline.
After several hours, the situation returned to normal.
