The Enna Calcio team – with president Luigi Stompo and the CEO of the company Fabio Montesano, along with the coach – were welcomed by prefect Maria Carolina Ippolito, who paid tribute to the protagonists of this sporting success that led the team to Serie D. Enna Calcio is the first amateur club with popular ownership.
“You have sparked great emotion in the city, that’s why I am pleased to meet you and personally congratulate you,” the prefect said. Also present at the meeting were Enna’s police chief Salvatore Fazzino, the commander of the Finance Guard Fulvio Marabotto, and a delegation from the municipal administration.
Montesano recounted the steps of this journey that began in 2016, when there was no facility to play in. He emphasized one of the secrets of success: popular ownership, the first in Italy among amateurs.
“It is a source of pride to be here, in the prefecture, representing – Montesano said – our city, at least in terms of sports, on which we have invested so much to lend a helping hand to Enna. Our experience began in 2016 when the city was going through a difficult time. We invented a club. We were in the First Category, we didn’t know where to play until we received a ten-year concession for the Gaeta stadium.”
