Dogs killed in Sicily, cases from Valderice to Comiso: animal rights activists offer rewards.

Three thousand euros to anyone who provides useful information to discover who shot a stray dog with a rifle, seriously injuring her hind legs. The reward was set by the Italian association for the defense of animals and the environment (Aidaa), which announced the filing of a complaint against unknown individuals for animal abuse.

“Never like in this case would we be happy to pay a reward of three thousand euros that we put on the head of the criminal who committed this infamous act and that will be paid to whoever, with their complaint given to the law enforcement and subsequently with their testimony given in court, helps to definitively convict the person responsible for this criminal act.”

The puppy with paralyzed hind legs (in the photo) due to a pellet from a rifle stuck in a vertebra was found on a street in Valderice. It is a four-month-old stray puppy. Initially, it was thought that the puppy had been hit by a car. Checks performed at a veterinary laboratory instead found that the dog had a pellet lodged in its spinal cord. The Municipality of Valderice filed a complaint. Animal welfare associations have been activated to find a placement for the puppy and for the necessary surgical intervention.

Meanwhile, on Friday afternoon in Comiso, several large-sized dogs, possibly strays and without microchips, as verified by the local police officers themselves, were found victims of alleged poisoning. The officers, accompanied by a volunteer, found the carcasses of four dogs, while one was in serious condition and therefore transferred to a veterinary clinic. Mayor Maria Rita Schembari ordered the immediate burial of the four carcasses in a communal area and the cleaning of the discovery area. The commander of the Local Police has sent the acts to the Prosecutor’s Office in Ragusa, proceedings are underway against unknown individuals for cruelty or unnecessary causes that led to the death of an animal.
