Workers dead in Casteldaccia, Partinico mourn Epifanio and Ignazio: “Our community loses two sons”

Explain for me the following article:

“We are all speechless, our community loses two sons.” The work massacre that occurred in Casteldaccia has deeply affected Partinico, in the Palermo region, of which two of the victims were originally from. In the town is also based the Quadrifoglio group, the company that had been commissioned by Amap to carry out the work in the sewage system where the tragic accident occurred. The mayor Pietro Rao expressed his sorrow on behalf of the municipal administration and the entire citizenship, in tears for Epifanio Alsazia, co-owner of the company and the oldest of the workers who lost their lives, and Ignazio Giordano, who was 57 years old.

“This accident deeply shakes our entire area, leaving an unbridgeable void in the hearts of all the affected families. Once again a work massacre. I strongly hope that full light will be shed on the dynamics of the accident – the mayor continues – and on the possible responsibilities that have determined fatal infiltrations of hydrogen sulfide, ascertaining their origin which appears disproportionate and which has led to a deadly chain reaction.”

This morning, May 7, the Municipality of Partinico also released a statement expressing dismay for “a deeply painful and shocking event. These moments of collective mourning remind us of the preciousness of human life and the fundamental importance of safety in the workplace. Every worker deserves an environment that guarantees not only the respect of their rights, but also the protection of their safety. The condolences expressed in these circumstances – it reads – go far beyond the simple formal gesture; they represent a collective embrace to the affected families, a tangible sign of solidarity and understanding towards those who have lost their loved ones. Safety in the workplace is an inalienable right that must be guaranteed by all possible means.”
