Woman from Scicli dies in hospital after serious injury in Calabria accident.

She was involved in an accident in Calabria that left her no chance. Francesca Stornello, 53, was from Scicli. Married and mother of three children, she was traveling by car with her husband, when a collision occurred with two other vehicles in Cassano allo Ionio, in the province of Cosenza. The impact occurred yesterday afternoon, Sunday 28 April, on state highway 106 bis that connects Trebisacce to Villapiana.

The woman and her husband, a Scicli entrepreneur who works in the fruit and vegetable sector, were in a white Audi Q5. Also involved in the crash were a Skoda and an Opel Insignia. The impact was very violent and caused eight injuries in total. The woman was transported to the hospital with a red code, by helicopter, but her condition was desperate. Shortly before 2 pm today, she passed away.

Stornello had turned 53 just a week ago, she was in Calabria because she had gone to visit one of her sons who lives in Cosenza and, just yesterday, she would have returned to Sicily with her husband. The tragedy occurred on the way back. In Scicli and Modica, her family is well known and the news of the woman’s death has deeply saddened everyone. The community is in tears and there are already many messages of condolence on social media.

“We prayed for you until the end – writes Giovanna – because a mother, a woman like you, should not have left us so soon. We are immensely saddened dear Francesca and we cannot believe it. Protect your family from up there, rest in peace”. Maria writes: “A dear friend. Our children grew up together, a girl with a heart of gold, humble and always with a smile on her face. Proud of your children and happy for those who grew up with them and happy when you knew the news. You were very happy when you saw the photos of Giorgio’s wedding and then of Giulio, the photos of my nephew, and looking at me you said: we did it, we raised them with our values. Goodbye Francesca Stornello you will always be in our hearts. Goodbye dear friend”.
