Thirty new police officers in Palermo, contracts to be signed within the month.

“Within this month (April 2024), thirty traffic wardens will sign employment contracts in Palermo.” This statement was made by Angelo Colucciello, commander of the Municipal Police Force. Today, the municipal council approved a convention allowing the Paolo Giaccone Hospital to conduct medical examinations for the new hires. The contracts, at level C1, will be for a fixed term of one year. The wardens were identified through selections already made by the Municipalities of Carini, Cefalù, and Termini Imerese. To strengthen the Municipal Police Force, a 2003 law was used that allows public administrations to “fill available positions, within the limits of their organic structure, using those eligible from public competition rankings approved by other administrations in the same bargaining sector.” Currently, there are 832 wardens in service at the command on Ugo La Malfa Street, less than half of the organic structure. To expedite medical examinations, the Municipality chose to utilize the skills of the Hospital. The Council approved the convention signed by Mayor Roberto Lagalla and the extraordinary commissioner of the healthcare facility, Maria Grazia Furnari. The doctors will conduct checks under a self-employed activity regime. The Hospital will receive 150 euros from the Municipality for each examination confirming physical suitability.”
