Scabies alert in Avola high school, mayor orders closure

The mayor of Avola, Rossana Cannata, has signed an ordinance ordering the closure of the Majorana high school after some alleged cases of scabies reported by a group of parents. Yesterday, when the first news circulated, some families decided to skip classes fearing contagion. And so, in the past few hours, the mayor, after consulting with the Asp of Siracusa and the Free Consortium of Siracusa, has ordered the suspension of classes, on a precautionary basis, “starting from today and until further notice.”

This is the second closure of a school in Avola in less than a week: in recent days, the same mayor ordered the transfer of students from the Giuseppe Bianca comprehensive institute to other buildings following the collapse of part of a roof in a classroom. The Procura of Siracusa has opened an investigation into this incident.
