The decision of the judge in Catania to suspend for one year the vice president and assessor for Agriculture of the Sicilian Region, Luca Sammartino, who is under investigation for corruption, from the public offices he holds with the interdiction from all activities related, could allow the Lega political exponent, who has already resigned his government responsibilities to President Renato Schifani, to remain a deputy of the Regional Assembly of Sicily: this scenario would occur if the judge decides not to send the order to the State Commissioner for the Sicilian Region.
If, on the other hand, the case file were transmitted, it would be up to the commissioner, after reading the entire order, to evaluate whether or not the conditions exist to trigger the prescriptions provided for by the Severino law, and in this case the process involves sending the report to the Prime Minister’s Office for decreeing and then transmitting the decree to the State Commissioner, and then sending it to the offices of the Regional Assembly of Sicily and activating the powers verification committee for the suspension of the deputy and the temporary replacement with the first non-elected candidate on the Catania list.
