Palermo: Unions Concerned over Resignation of Foss Superintendent, Call for Regional Intervention.

The trade unions Cgil, Cisl, Uil and Fials Cisal express “deep concern” regarding “the critical situation” in which the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra Foundation finds itself. “The reports of the imminent resignation of superintendent Andrea Peria project us, in the immediate future, towards another period of uncertainty that threatens the operability of the Foundation,” they explain. “In this delicate context – they continue – the suspension of the payment of all contributions as declared by the general manager of the Tourism department is added. A situation that jeopardizes the tranquility of workers’ families, evoking specters of a recent past, in addition to stalling the process of stabilizing precarious staff. Last but not least, the continuity of cultural and musical activities already programmed or to be programmed for the upcoming summer season.”

The trade unions urgently request a “decisive intervention” from the political authorities in order to ensure effective management of FOSS and also ask for intervention with the regional assessor on whom the responsibilities of the Foundation fall. “It is imperative – they emphasize – that immediate measures be taken to restore operational normality and, above all, to give effectiveness and continuity to the project action related to a Foundation that has 65 years of musical productions to its credit, being among the three purely symphonic institutions in the Italian music scene. The trade unions commit to closely monitoring the situation and supporting the workers during this transition period, with the aim of safeguarding the cultural and occupational heritage of our beloved orchestra.”
