Palermo: Ten cars stolen daily, Uil police advise unique code on windows, never give keys to attendants

Explain briefly the following article

A chase of over six kilometers along the streets of downtown Palermo which eventually rewarded the State Police patrol, which managed to keep up with the dangerous maneuvers of a car thief who had fled using the stolen vehicle. From the stadium to the Admiral’s Bridge, trying to take forbidden accesses and other tricks, not successful, to try to cover his tracks. However, the phenomenon is very widespread in the city. The citizens are exasperated and there are also social groups to report and ask for help.

The Uil police provides some advice to citizens on how to better secure their car. The thief, in fact, is in a hurry, both to open the car and to deactivate the detection and sound anti-theft systems. In addition to the various electronic devices and GPS, it is therefore good to provide a mechanical locking system, both for the steering wheel and the pedals, and to evaluate this also in the case of the tires. When using the smart key, it is also good practice to verify the actual closure of the car: the thief, in fact, can notice the operation, for example stationed in a large parking lot, and disturb the signal with a specific electronic device. Never leave the car parked for more than a few days in the same place, as it may be seen as a sign of the owner’s absence and, in that case, attract attention to the house.

The Uil recommends then to provide an indelible unique code on all the windows of the car. As is known, the cars most subject to theft are represented by a not very large group of utility vehicles. The reason can be found in the difficulty of finding spare parts and in the high costs of these. The increases, moreover, have been accentuated following the war in Ukraine and the recent events in the Red Sea that impact on the times and costs of supplies. Among the cases niente are not infrequent those of the recovery of the stolen car in areas adjacent to those of theft. Sometimes they are more or less tampered with if not totally deprived of all removable parts but there are also cases in which they are abandoned intact. Just enough time for a “walk” perhaps aimed at committing another crime.
