Palermo launches lunch service in 60 schools

The school catering service managed by the Municipality of Palermo will start on Wednesday, October 11th. It is aimed at students and staff of state-run kindergartens, primary and lower secondary schools that have afternoon activities. This year, the service will involve sixty school buildings. The meals will be entirely prepared with organic and local products by the company “R.T.I. Vivenda S.p.A. – Siristora F&G S.r.l. – Solidarietà e lavoro Soc.”. The company won the contract for two years, worth approximately 3.6 million euros. The menus have been designed to meet the needs of all, including traditional meals as well as options for special diets such as vegan or gluten-free. The schools that have requested the service to start on Wednesday are listed, while the remaining schools will activate the service according to their own schedule. The agreement includes the social clause, ensuring job security for employees and allowing municipal employees previously involved in food preparation and cleaning to be deployed to other areas where staff is lacking. Aristide Tamajo, the councilor for Education and School Buildings of the Municipality of Palermo, expressed satisfaction with the prompt launch of the catering service and stated that this is the first time the administration has entrusted the entire management of the service to an external company.
