Palermo gathers at Foro Italico to promote sport and healthy lifestyle

Explain the following article briefly:

“A day to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles, organized by Vivi Sano onlus at the Health Park of Foro Italico in Palermo. At dawn, at 6:10 am sharp, with the sun salutation, many people participated in yoga and meditation activities by the sea with the Rishi Culture Center. Then athletics, soccer, basketball, many free sports activities open to everyone.

“It is an opportunity to meet with the community to promote physical activity in all its facets – explains Daniele Giliberti, founder of Vivi Sano onlus. We also inaugurated the new multifunctional field, donated by Livia onlus, Amg gas and Misericordia Piana degli Albanesi. Once a month for 8 years we have been organizing these events. Today there are multidisciplinary tournaments with basketball and among the teams there is also the Vivi Sano Paralympic team with intellectually disabled children; soccer with the social schools of Addiopizzo and at the same time at Cala we are going out with the dragon boat, an inclusive boat that for years has given children with and without disabilities the opportunity to be together in the middle of the sea, doing a healthy activity.”

Angelo Morello, president of the Livia onlus association, was also present: “This is a place that I define as magical and that has been adopted by the people of Palermo and especially by children. Many organizations and associations have been involved. However, sports must be done safely, which is why free electrocardiograms and cardiac visits were provided inside the park by Vivi Sano doctors thanks to the “Sport Popular in Public Space” project, supported by the Foundation with the South.

“The death of a child or sudden death is an emotional disaster for the family and society – explains cardiothoracic surgeon Mario Valenza, who has been volunteering for 8 years. Finding even casually a child with alterations that may suggest a cardiac risk is important. Lately we have also addressed adults by doing an electrocardiographic screening with blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol checks. It is clear that we are not a formal clinic. We provide preventive care and check the patient’s situation at that moment, and if we notice a concerning signal, we refer them for a more thorough examination.”
