Over 2000 toxic Chinese toys seized in Palermo

Italian customs officials and finance police in Palermo have seized 2,016 Chinese toys potentially dangerous for children due to high levels of “phthalates”, a substance used to make plastic products more flexible and soft. Chemical analysis revealed an excessive amount of “phthalates” beyond the EU limit, posing a potential health hazard, especially for children. Phthalates are known endocrine disruptors linked to obesity, insulin resistance, asthma, and ADHD. The toys were seized and the importer, an Italian citizen, was reported to the local prosecutor for selling non-compliant products and false CE marking. Parents should be cautious of what they place under the Christmas tree for their children.
