New Sustainable Development Plan changes tourism in Aeolian Islands.

The Aeolian Islands have adopted a “Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development”: a crucial planning document to define a new vision for tourism across all the islands of the archipelago that is unique, planned, shared, and sustainable. The administration of Lipari, led by Mayor Riccardo Gullo, recognized this need and collaborated with the municipalities of Salina to commission the Santagata Foundation in Turin to develop the plan. After a thorough process of listening to the local population, studying the current social, economic, tourism, and natural situation of the islands, analyzing needs and prospects, the final plan was delivered last March and has now been approved by the councils of Lipari, Santa Marina Salina, Leni, and Malfa. The plan aims to enhance the quality of life for residents by improving services offered year-round and every day, not just limited to seasonal tourism. Mayor Gullo describes it as a educational and instructive plan, drawing inspiration from similar islands around the world facing similar conditions. The vision emphasizes socio-economic and cultural development while protecting and preserving the ecosystem of its extraordinary territory designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
