Ministry of Environment’s doubts on Strait Bridge: 239 document integrations requested

In this article, Minister Matteo Salvini launches the Conference of Services on the Strait Bridge to start construction by summer. However, the Ministry of the Environment, led by Gilberto Pichetto of Forza Italia, has requested 239 document integrations from the company responsible for the project, stating that the documentation provided is superficial, insufficient, and outdated. The requests for additional documents pertain to various aspects of the project, including environmental impact, construction costs, and management of excavation materials.

Environmental associations and local anti-bridge committees criticize the project, while opposition parties claim that the Ministry of the Environment’s actions effectively block the project. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte describes the project as old and flawed, while others question the validity of the proposed bridge design.

The CEO of the company responsible for the project remains confident, stating that they will provide the necessary clarifications within 30 days. Minister Pichetto finds himself in an uncomfortable position as his ministry critiques a project supported by a colleague. However, officials emphasize that the requests for additional documents are standard procedure for environmental impact assessments and do not constitute a rejection of the bridge project.
