Mancuso thinking ahead to playoffs: “This Palermo can compete with anyone”

The draw against Parma did not change much in the Palermo’s standings, but it certainly boosted the team’s self-esteem. The reason? At times, the rosanero put the league leaders under pressure even in terms of gameplay and possession. Leonardo Mancuso is convinced of this: “We played a very good game, showing that we can compete with anyone, as we have done throughout the season. I believe that the demonstration came with the teams at the top of the table, with whom we have always done well, so we have continued this trend.”

Since Mignani’s arrival, the team seems to have gained more confidence, a necessary condition to face the play-offs. “The awareness of not being inferior to anyone is very important for this final rush and for these last matches, to then prepare for the play-offs – Mancuso continues on the club’s social channels. We will face teams of our level, so it will be important to prepare well. My return to the field against Sampdoria with a goal was very important for me, showing that I have always tried to be ready and work hard even when I have had less playing time. Now I will try to contribute to the team to achieve the final goal.”

After an important start to the season, the number 7 rosanero had seen his playing time reduced, but with the change in the dugout and the new formation, he is carving out an important role (last three games as a starter and one goal scored). “In this final stretch of the season, the strength of the group will be even more important, as it has been throughout the year for us – the number 7 continues. Whoever is called upon for ninety minutes or even just a few, must be ready and can be decisive.”

Mancuso then spoke about Mignani: “Since his arrival, he has tried to transmit his ideas of compactness and unity to us, and we are trying to put them into practice. We still have these weeks and these last matches to try to assimilate his ideas even better and then try to exploit them in this final stretch of the season.” Finally, on the upcoming match with Reggiana, the former Empoli player concluded: “They are not in a positive moment. This doesn’t mean anything because Serie B shows that every match is a separate chapter, so we must be ready. I am sure that we will face this week in the best way and we will arrive ready for the match. In these last matches, it will be important to bring home as many points as possible.”
