Man arrested in Francofonte: Sentenced to 11 years and 10 months

The Carabinieri of Francofonte have arrested Francesco Caltabiano, a 65-year-old from Francofonte, in compliance with an order from the General Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Appeals of Catania. He is to serve a definitive sentence of 11 years and 10 months in prison. Caltabiano is identified by the Dda of Catania as one of the leading figures of the Lentini mafia clan led by boss Nello Nardo. He had been arrested in November 2017 as part of the “Chaos” operation conducted by the district anti-mafia directorate of Catania, and in 2022, he was under house arrest for health reasons. “The ruling of the Court of Appeals,” explain the Carabinieri, “came after the rejection of the appeal which found the 65-year-old guilty of mafia association, extortion, violation of firearms regulations, kidnapping, and aggravated robbery committed in Catania, Siracusa, and Lentini since 2016.”
