Ispica: Tabaccheria owners threatened with taser, robbers flee with loot

Robbers in action in Ispica in broad daylight: armed with a taser, they threatened the owners of the Giunta tobacco shop and forced them to hand over the cash. The targeted commercial activity is located on Via Statale, a busy street where two masked men reportedly arrived in a car. They activated the taser in the air, then ordered the victims to hand over the money and once they had the loot, they fled.

The criminals made off with just over a thousand euros and tobacco products. The alarm was immediately raised from the shop: the victims, in shock, reported the incident to the carabinieri and provided a description of the robbers, who are now being sought. The images from the cameras are being examined for important details on the vehicle used by the assailants.

An episode that has shocked the community and strongly condemned by the mayor, Innocenzo Leontini, who expressed his support and that of the entire population to the owners of the shop by personally visiting the site. “We are confident that the law enforcement will quickly identify the culprits and that the perpetrators of this despicable act will be brought to justice – said the mayor -. The administration, for its part, will continue to work to ensure legality in Ispica and the serenity of its residents. To Pietro Giunta and his family, receive the warmest and most affectionate embrace from the entire city,” the mayor concluded.
