Greco in red but opened businesses: behind the scenes of the assets seizure from the grandson of the “Ciaculli Pope”

The official economic resources of Leandro Greco, the nephew of the “boss” of Ciaculli, were not sufficient to support his lifestyle but, despite being in the red, he continued to open businesses and buy apartments. Investigators calculated the difference between his income, estimated based on the Istat data for Sicilian families, and his expenses over the past 14 years: the overall negative balance would have been over 300 thousand euros that cannot be accounted for. This led to the seizure of assets worth one million, carried out by the carabinieri on the decision of the court’s prevention measures section, for all assets considered to have been acquired through illicit means due to financial inequality, as stated by the judges. Among these assets is the property on via Civiletti, intended for an artisan laboratory, which was purchased by Greco’s mother – Angela Milano – for 100 thousand euros, paid through three bank drafts, one for 20 thousand and two for 40 thousand euros. This expenditure, for the finances of the 43-year-old boss, known as “u criaturi” – considered the Ciaculli mafia boss and arrested in the Cupola 2.0 operation in December 2018 – would have resulted in a negative balance of 121 thousand euros, leading to the belief that the investment was made using illicit resources.

The financial interventions for the poultry, rotisserie, and hamburger restaurant Milano’s, and the wholesale company for fruits and vegetables “Greco Emilio Nicolò”, were also said to have been overstated compared to the earnings declared by the mafioso. Both businesses accumulated a debt of 120 thousand euros and were allegedly funded using illicit capital.
