Girl burned by a radiator in a school in Vittoria, family’s lawyers: “Responsibilities must be clarified”

The conditions of the 8-year-old girl who suffered severe burns to the lower part of her body in a school in Vittoria on the morning of January 30 are stable. She has second-degree burns on 15 percent of her body surface and is hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit at Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania. The Carabinieri are investigating what happened while the girl was in the school, which is part of the San Biagio-Rodari Institute.

The family’s lawyers, Andrea Nicosia and Giovanni Bongiorno, have filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office in Ragusa to determine any possible responsibilities. Boiling water is believed to have come out of a radiator valve. “We have also requested access to the school’s records,” say the lawyers, “to understand if the systems had received adequate and careful maintenance, in order to determine what happened, which is already being investigated by the military.”
