Giardini Naxos: Theft of ATM from deceased elderly woman leads to investigation

The Carabinieri of Giardini Naxos have reported a 53-year-old caregiver accused of aggravated theft and unauthorized use of payment cards. The investigation began after the complaint filed by the daughter of a deceased elderly woman who noticed missing funds from her mother’s ATM card. Through documentary checks carried out at the debit card issuer, the ATM machine where the unauthorized withdrawals had taken place was identified. Further investigations conducted by the Carabinieri, using the surveillance footage from the ATM, led to the identification of the caregiver as the alleged culprit who stole the ATM card. The woman is said to have withdrawn €2,450 between September and October.
