Deputy Riccardo Gennuso faces 7 years for extorting bingo workers

Seven years of prison have been requested by the Prosecutor’s Office of Palermo for regional parliamentarian Riccardo Gennuso. The trial revolves around the extortions that the employees of a Bingo hall, which the deputy managed since 2015, allegedly suffered.

The prosecutors also requested a sentence of 6 years and 4 months for Gennuso’s father, Giuseppe Gennuso, 6 years and 4 months for the former partner of the previous management of the hall, Leonardo Burgio, and 6 years and 5 months for the union representative Antonino Bignardelli. The latter two are also accused of fraud.

According to the accusation, the victims were allegedly forced to give up part of their severance pay under threat that if they did not, their working hours would be reduced. Burgio and Bignardelli also allegedly told the employees that the company was on the verge of bankruptcy and that only by giving up part of their severance pay could they recover some of their credits.
