Cooperativa Rinascita: The Goodness of Dried Tomato
The Cooperative “Rinascita” was founded in 1977, when three young producers launched the idea of a reality capable of facing the numerous difficulties connected to the management of tomato commercialization. The increasing tomato production in the Valledolmo area led to a significant volume of exports to the canning factories of Bagheria, Partinico, Comiso, and Palermo. Over the years, “Rinascita” became the focal point around which hundreds of small producers organized the commercialization and management of logistics and delivery. In the early 1980s, the cooperative, now flourishing, specialized and technologically advanced, became an essential reference point for the entire territory, giving a strong boost to the local agricultural economy.
The deep crisis of the canning industries at the end of the 1990s led to a period of uncertainties that put the existence of the cooperative at risk, which was overcome by exploiting the opportunities arising from the emerging Territorial Pacts. Therefore, “Rinascita” became a small processing industry creating economic and social added value for the members and the entire local economy. In particular, the industrial processing of the famous “Siccagno di Valledolmo” tomato is now carried out in the modern plant of Contrada Rovittello in Sclafani Bagni, equipped with technologically advanced machinery and meeting all requirements.
