Catania inquiry: Tremestieri mayor resigns to the judge

The mayor of Tremestieri Etneo, Santi Rando, has resigned from his position. He stated that he is doing so in order to defend himself with greater serenity, as he is currently in prison for political-electoral exchange within the Pandora investigation conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office of Catania, with investigations carried out by the Carabinieri. During his interrogation, the mayor made spontaneous declarations in front of the judge Carla Aurora Valenti and his lawyer, Tommaso Tamburino. The prefect of Catania suspended him from his position yesterday, along with councilor Mario Ronsisvalle, who is currently under house arrest.

Rando denied the accusation of electoral exchange, stating that he has never done so and is confident that he can prove his innocence. Tamburino, the lawyer, will consider appealing to the court for a review following the judge’s decision.
