Casteldaccia massacre: Unions claim some dead workers were untrained

From our checks carried out at the bilateral bodies, some of the workers victims of this immense tragedy were under classified compared to the tasks they were carrying out at the construction site. This is what the provincial secretaries of Fillea, Filca, Feneal in Palermo, Piero Ceraulo, Francesco Danese and Pasquale De Vardo say. “This means what we have been denouncing for years regarding the correct classification of construction workers on the construction sites in the province. Furthermore, we have never had any evidence that these same workers have carried out training activities in the last year at the bilateral system,” they conclude. “The dynamics are still not clear, but if, as it seems, all the elements suggest that the workers were carrying out a dangerous job, we cannot understand why all the necessary precautions were not taken for interventions where leaks of harmful gases can occur, dangerous for public safety,” add the union leaders. “Just the other day in Palermo, we were remembering the deaths of Campofelice and via Ugo La Malfa. With this new tragedy, a situation of emergency and a state of war is confirmed. Here the deaths on the job are multiplying day after day. Tomorrow we will be in front of the prefect to ask for the intervention of the institutions and to request the table on health and safety that we have been requesting for some time,” Ceraulo, Danese and De Vardo explain.
