Attempted car theft in Palermo: carjackers flee and collide with vehicle carrying husband, wife, and child.

Using a stolen Lancia Y as their base, two young men were attempting to steal another car, a Fiat 500, in Palermo. The incident took place in the parking lot of the Lidl shopping center near viale Regione Siciliana. Police officers noticed the two individuals getting out of the Lancia Y and trying to force open the door of the Fiat 500. The officers approached them, but the thieves managed to get into the car and drove off towards via Perpignano. Their reckless chase continued even after crashing into an Alfa Romeo with a husband, wife, and child inside. After the accident, they continued to run in an attempt to escape. Only when they reached the narrow street of via Belvedere did they abandon the car and try to flee on foot. However, the police were able to apprehend them. The two thieves were arrested and it was confirmed that the Fiat 500 in the parking lot had visible signs of tampering. Both the Lancia Y and the Fiat 500 were returned to their rightful owners.
