Palermo: asking the poor for 50 euros for free groceries

Someone finally spoke up and reported the case to the Giornale di Sicilia: it’s a strange case of poor people being asked to pay a “contribution” of fifty euros to receive a free food package. A reporter investigated the issue and gathered testimonies about the requests made to those in need by the leaders of the association Le ali della libertà in Palermo. The Food Bank took note of our report and initiated its own investigation, sending a letter of complaint and urgently summoning the leaders of the center on via Bergamotto, Tommaso Natale. Possible suspension and revocation of the agreement are also on the table. When asked for clarification, the association’s coordinators first denied the allegations and then refused to provide any explanation.
