Two municipal employees acquitted: no irregularities in the artichoke festival tender.
The former employee of the Municipality of Cerda, Vincenzo Tripi who retired, and the current head of the first sector, Antonina Iolanda Iudicello, have been acquitted in an abbreviated trial in the case surrounding the Artichoke Festival of 2022. Tripi, defended by lawyer Carmelo Genovese, was charged with abuse of office, violation of the contractual reference standard, and embezzlement. The manager Iudicello, defended by lawyer Domenico Cacocciola, was charged with violation of the contractual reference standard. The prosecutor had requested 2 years of imprisonment for Tripi and 4 months of imprisonment for Iudicello. The judge of Termini Imerese, Gregorio Balsamo, acquitted Tripi of abuse of office because “the fact is not considered a crime by law”. As for the contract standard and embezzlement, he was acquitted for not having committed the act. The same formula applies to Iolanda Iudicello. Also in the trial regarding the artichoke festival and the procession, the Mayor of Cerda Salvatore Geraci, who is a regional deputy of the League, is also charged along with some municipal employees who have opted for the ordinary trial. The mayor must answer for attempted extortion and abuse of office. He is defended by lawyer Vincenzo Lo Re.
