Adrano man transporting lambs between hot sheets: reported by police.

The Adrano police, during a routine patrol, caught a 38-year-old man from Tortorici transporting animals in poor conditions inside a non-compliant van without any authorization. The man was reported for animal cruelty by the Adrano Public Security Commissariat officers who intercepted him along State Road 284. The man was driving back to Tortorici in a closed van where they found three lambs and a ten-day-old calf in distressing conditions, bound and lying on the floor without ventilation in suffocating heat.

The police immediately freed the animals and removed the metal panel to improve their conditions while waiting for veterinary care provided by the Asp. The checks also revealed the absence of ear tags or identification marks necessary for animal tracking, which led to the application of specific species marks and administrative seizure and transfer of the animals to an authorized vehicle.

Further checks on documentation required by law for transporting live animals showed the complete absence of transport documents and authorization for animal transport. The driver was fined, and as the owner of the animals, he was reported for the crime of animal cruelty, which carries a penalty of imprisonment from three to eighteen months and a fine ranging from 5,000 to 30,000 euros according to Article 544 of the Criminal Code.
