New rules for private tankers in Sciacca due to drought

Explain in short the following article:

The distribution of water through tankers operated by private companies must always be under the control of the managing authority, which is the only authorized entity to guarantee the origin and safety of the water resource. This was stated by the prefect of Agrigento Filippo Romano, who intervened personally to regulate the operation of the supply service in the municipality of Sciacca, where private companies in the water transport sector had protested against the new supply and distribution methods.

Despite the rationing imposed by the state of emergency declared by the President of the Sicilian Region, Sciacca has faced several critical issues, especially for buildings not connected to the public water network. Following the prefect’s intervention, owners of buildings not previously connected to the public network have requested to be connected, leading to a peak in requests from Sciacca.

The article also mentions that connecting to the public water network is more cost-effective than relying on water tankers. Tankers, however, continue to be used to address any difficulties in supply or lack of resources.

The substitute service through private tankers in Sciacca is still in the stabilization phase, and Aica is struggling to coordinate between user requests and water transporters. The mayor of Sciacca, Fabio Termine, has requested Aica to set up a dedicated phone number for users in his municipality.
