4-year-old rescued by coast guard after incident on a sailing boat in the Aeolian Islands

An incident aboard a sailing boat off the coast of Alicudi resulted in a 4-year-old child being rescued by the coast guard. The operation was coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Sub Center in Catania, following a radio signal, and the intervention took place between the islands of Alicudi and Filicudi to assist a 4-year-old child involved in an accident on a sailing boat. The alert was raised by the child’s parents and involved the A65 boat from the Maritime Office in Lipari and a fishing boat directed to the area. Due to the child’s medical condition and the distance from the coast, in coordination with the Italian Medical Radio Center, an aerial intervention using a Nemo aircraft from the coast guard station in Catania was dispatched. The child was stabilized aboard the helicopter by medical personnel and safely transported to the hospital in Messina.
