Young migrant rescued by Ocean Viking dies in Agrigento hospital after shipwreck

One of the two migrants transported by helicopter from the Ocean Viking to the San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Agrigento died during the night. The details, age, and country of origin of the young man are unknown. According to the reconstruction by the prefecture of Agrigento, the two rescued migrants were taken by helicopter directly from the NGO Sos Mediterranee’s ship, without stopping in Lampedusa. The young man arrived at the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition. The crew of the ship rescued the 25 surviving migrants after the sinking of the rubber dinghy that departed from Libya. According to the survivors’ accounts, around 60 people are still missing. The other migrant who required medical evacuation is currently hospitalized in the ICU of the Ingrassia hospital in Palermo.
