Wild nightlife in Palermo, thorough checks: a gazebo seized and a venue closed for hygiene deficiencies
The municipal police, in collaboration with the Carabinieri of Palermo Centre, intervened in the streets Spinuzza and between corso Vittorio Emanuele and via Chiavettieri during their routine checks in the nightlife areas in recent days. In the first case, they seized an illegal gazebo and unauthorized equipment for musical entertainment, while in the second case they sealed off a venue due to serious hygiene, health, and structural deficiencies. Fines totaling nearly 17,000 euros were imposed. The names of the sanctioned commercial activities were not provided.
In a venue on via Spinuzza, the operators carried out a preventative penal seizure of a gazebo, the perimeter wall of the structure, and the related reinforced concrete screed as they were completely lacking the necessary permits. The intervening agents found an illegal occupation of public land amounting to 208 square meters. Furthermore, as the occupied area was of significant historical and cultural interest, subject to monument protection, the installation of unauthorized furnishings not only compromised public safety and traffic flow but also endangered the preservation and integrity of the historic pavement in front of the venue, recently restored. The agents also carried out a precautionary administrative seizure of outdoor entertainment equipment, as per the new municipal regulation on nightlife, with the additional penalty of closing the public establishment for a period of no less than five days, imposed by the Municipality’s Single Desk.
The owner of the venue on via Spinuzza was reported for the following criminal offenses: illegal construction of a building structure; use of a building structure before the issuance of a structural test certificate; use of a building structure before the issuance of seismic authorization; invasion and arbitrary occupation of a portion of public maritime property for profit with a structure; defacement of objects of historical and artistic interest; damage to the road surface.
