Two young men arrested in Palazzolo Acreide for assaulting a woman who refused a sexual advance.
The Carabinieri of Palazzolo Acreide (Siracusa) have arrested a 21-year-old and a 19-year-old, both with prior police records for crimes against people and property, accused of group sexual assault, robbery, and personal injuries against a 54-year-old woman. The measure was issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Siracusa which coordinated the investigations carried out by the Carabinieri and resulted from the victim’s report of having been subjected to violence by the two young men.
From the investigations, also carried out thanks to the analysis of public and private video surveillance footage, it emerged that the two, acquaintances of the victim, after going to her house under the pretense of consuming beers together and keeping her company as the house was dark due to a temporary power outage, attempted a sexual approach.
When the woman refused to engage in sexual relations, the 21-year-old struck her in the face with punches and slaps, causing injuries deemed to heal within 30 days. The 19-year-old witnessed the violence and recorded a video with his cellphone. Before fleeing, the two stole 100 euros from the woman’s purse. The older boy has been imprisoned in the Cavadonna prison in Siracusa, while the accomplice is under house arrest.
