Travolta killed in front of school: moment of silence for teacher Ninfa
Generations of former students, mothers, colleagues, and many friends fondly remember Ninfa Indelicato, the 64-year-old teacher who was tragically hit and killed by a van driven by an elderly man yesterday, May 21, as she was entering the school in Campobello di Mazara. The shock and pain from the tragedy are palpable among those who spent their days with her at the Pirandello – San Giovanni Bosco comprehensive institute. The school principal, Giulia Flavio, has invited all campuses to remember the teacher with a minute of silence today at noon. This invitation is also shared by the mayor, Giuseppe Castiglione, the president of the city council, Pietro Di Stefano, and the entire city council. The mayor has also canceled the event “A city to sing,” which was scheduled for Friday, May 24, on the occasion of the National Day of Legality.
“It is an immense pain,” says the school principal, “the whole community comes together around the family, to whom we offer our deepest condolences. In this tragic moment, it is truly difficult to find the right words to say goodbye to our beloved teacher Ninfa, whom we all remember for her great human qualities, professionalism, professional skills, educational passion, availability, and dedication. She leaves an indelible mark in the world of education and an unforgettable memory in all of us.”
Those who were among the students in the classes where the teacher taught remember her with love and gratitude: “Your demanding and ringing voice would still make us tremble under the desk today,” writes former student Chiara Castiglione on social media. “But it is in this silence that echoes the most sincere affection that you have always given us, inside and outside the classroom, when we were children and even now as adults. You left while about to do what always came before yourself, the teacher. Safe travels, Teacher Ninfa.”
The sixty-four-year-old is also in the hearts of the many mothers who have entrusted their children to her over the years: “My children grew up with you,” writes Giovanna, “you were not just a teacher, but an aunt, a second mother. What a special and incomparable person. Teacher Ninfa, we will never forget everything you have done for our little ones, who have grown thanks to you as well.” The funeral will be held tomorrow, Thursday, May 23, at the main church at 3 pm.
