Tragedy on Mount Etna: Tuscan tourist dies during excursion

A 60-year-old tourist from Tuscany died this morning during a hiking excursion on the north side of Mount Etna in Sicily. The man, who fell ill while in a group near the astronomical observatory at an altitude of 2800 meters, was immediately attended to by his companions who alerted emergency services. Alpine and caving rescue technicians arrived at the scene, along with medical personnel from a helicopter ambulance. Despite their efforts to resuscitate him using a defibrillator, the tourist could not be saved. The local alpine rescue team and nearby police station also responded to the incident.
