Tourist dies in San Vito Lo Capo while in Sicily to watch Palermo-Parma soccer match

Giorgio Mangi, a 73-year-old tourist from Parma who died in San Vito Lo Capo today (April 22), was in Sicily because he was following his favorite team. A great fan of Parma, he had traveled with a group of friends to watch his favorite team play in Palermo, then decided to spend a week in Sicily, staying in San Vito Lo Capo, a popular tourist town.

Around noon, their carefree vacation on the white beaches ended in tragedy. Giorgio Mangi died in the waters off the seaside town while swimming out of season. It is likely that Mangi suffered a sudden illness while in the water and was unable to reach the shore in time. His friends only saw his body floating and immediately rushed into the water. They brought him back to shore, where one friend attempted to perform CPR, but it was too late for Giorgio Mangi. Emergency responders on the beach could only confirm his death.

Police and coast guard officials were also on the scene, with the coast guard conducting investigations. An autopsy has been ordered by the magistrate to determine the exact cause of death. It is believed that a digestive blockage may have occurred, possibly due to eating before swimming, but it is also possible that he suffered a heart attack.
