Three arrests in Catania as they try to dispose of drugs by flushing them down the toilet
The investigative unit of the Carabinieri in Catania has arrested three drug dealers with various doses of marijuana, cocaine, and crack in the densely populated San Cristoforo neighborhood. In handcuffs are a 28-year-old and a 42-year-old from Catania with criminal records, along with their 51-year-old accomplice. The 28-year-old had set up a thriving drug trade, using an uninhabited house in the San Cristoforo neighborhood as a logistical base and storage point from which the pusher would make home deliveries to his customers. Upon gaining access to the house, the soldiers found themselves facing a reinforced door with a rectangular opening with a retractable iron hatch from the inside, allowing the drugs to be sold “safely” from inside.
Upon entering the house, it was found to be devoid of furniture, further evidence that it was uninhabited and used exclusively for illicit activities. Inside, the soldiers found the visibly agitated 42-year-old and the 51-year-old, likely due to their obvious state of agitation. This agitation was later confirmed when the soldiers found paper wraps in the toilet bowl, which had not yet been flushed down the drain. Once retrieved, the Carabinieri discovered that the foil actually concealed several doses of marijuana and crack, which the two pushers in the house had tried to destroy upon realizing the arrival of the soldiers. In the living room of the house, a large screen was set up with cameras, a surveillance system to monitor the area and operate undisturbed in their illicit activities. The investigators immediately seized all the drugs and also searched the three drug dealers, including the 51-year-old, who evidently was responsible for managing the group’s money, as he was found with 350 euros in his jacket pocket, the earnings. The judge validated the arrests for all and ordered the two with criminal records to be placed under house arrest with night-time confinement.
