Thieves break into Acate’s main church, but vice pastor scares them off

Thieves broke into the main church of Acate, in the province of Ragusa, but were chased away by the vice parish priest. It happened during the night, when some criminals forced one of the side doors of the church of San Nicola di Bari and once inside they broke down the door of the parish offices. They were chased away by the vice parish priest, don Salvatore Frasca, who was sleeping in the apartment upstairs. Once the lights were turned on, the thieves fled without taking anything. Their target, probably, were the consecrated hosts. In fact, the tabernacle was found forced open, right where the pyxes with the consecrated hosts are kept.

The vice parish priest called the carabinieri who have started the investigation. The images recorded by the external cameras will also be useful. In the last few months, there have been about thirty thefts and attempted thefts in the province of Ragusa. The most recent one was carried out against the church Immacolata Concezione in Roccazzo di Chiaramonte Gulfi. The thieves had entered by forcing a window and in the priest’s office had managed to take some money. Even on that occasion, the criminals were chased away by a priest, don Giovanni Piccione.
