Sugarfree, the Catania group, returns with new single “Non è l’amore”

The Sugarfree band is back. The Italian music scene welcomes back a beloved band. The Sicilian band marks its return to the public with the new song “Non è l’amore”, available from April 19, 2024.

“Non è l’amore” is a single that showcases the identity of Sugarfree, with engaging music and sophisticated yet direct lyrics. The song tells the story of a love disappointment following a supposed breakup. However, it’s not love itself that causes pain, but the “punch of illusion” that comes with the feeling. With guitars, drums, bass, and the iconic voice of the frontman, the Sicilian band has returned to stay this time, as there are more upcoming news for Sugarfree.

The Sugarfree band started as a cover band, and their breakthrough came when singer, songwriter, and frontman Matteo Amantia joined the group along with the fundamental drummer Giuseppe Lo Iacono. Italians mainly know the band for some of their biggest hits, such as “Cleptomania” from the album “Clepto-manie” released in 2005 under a major record label. After this success, they participated in the 2006 Sanremo Festival with the song “Solo lei mi dà” and in the Festivalbar of the same year with “Inossidabile.”

In 2008, Sugarfree released the song “Scusa ma ti chiamo amore,” used as the soundtrack of the Italian film of the same name directed by Federico Moccia. Over the years, the band has released other singles but also faced some departures from the original lineup. Their last work was about four years ago with “Niente è come prima.” Then, after a long silence, they released “Non è l’amore,” the new single available on major music streaming platforms from April 19, 2024. The record label Pulp Entertainment, based in Catania, is in charge of the music release.

Many have wondered “What happened to Sugarfree?” and don’t understand the reason for the long silence, but the frontman of the band, Matteo Amantia, clarifies everything: “In recent years, in addition to concerts, we have dedicated ourselves to and delved into the sounds of electronic music, and thanks to the contribution of producer and arranger Pat Legato (Simple Minds), this song represents the result of our research, a totally electro-pop song,” the singer of the Italian band explained. Regarding live dates, Sugarfree will not only return with a new song but on May 25th, the band will give a huge gift to their fans by embarking on a tour that will visit various locations around Italy.
