Students from two schools in Palermo clean up the historic center, collecting 30 bags of plastic and glass waste

Armed with gloves and bags, over a hundred students went around the historic center of Palermo to take care of the city. The initiative, promoted by the association Retake Palermo, involved students from two schools in the city, the Ferrara school and the hospitality school Piazza, on Earth Day. “The students went around collecting everything they encountered along their path, such as plastic bottles, litter, cigarette butts,” explains Marco D’Amico, president of Retake. “We need to take care of our city and today (April 19) we wanted to send a strong message on a very important day.” The loot of the morning amounts to about thirty bags of plastic and glass and ten two-liter bottles full of cigarette butts. Rain and wind did not stop the students who, equipped with the necessary tools, cleaned the streets from the waste that crowds the sidewalks and pedestrian areas of the old city. “We welcomed the rain with pleasure,” jokes D’Amico. “Sure, it created some difficulties, but we are happy: Palermo needs the rain that has finally arrived.”
