Six teenagers stranded during mountain hike in Trabia, sparking fear

Six young people got stuck in Trabia while hiking in the Pizzo Cane area near Casina Artale. They ventured into a rugged area and couldn’t move forward or back. They called the emergency number to report their location. The 118 emergency services and alpine rescue were dispatched to rescue them. An helicopter was sent to retrieve the young people.

The group, consisting of six young people, three males and three females aged between 22 and 25, from Ficarazzi, left the trail near Casina Artale and mistakenly took a firebreak path, losing their orientation and ending up in a densely vegetated area fenced with barbed wire. Panicked and fearing the darkness, they managed to contact the emergency number 112 from a spot with phone coverage, which alerted the 118 emergency center that requested the intervention of the Alpine Rescue due to the rugged terrain.

Two teams of technicians were sent to the location, reached the group on foot, brought them out of the rugged area with the help of a rope, and escorted them to the trail to safely return to the paved road where an ambulance from the 118 was waiting for them. None of them sustained injuries, but the medical staff conducted a check-up for safety.
