Sicily gripped by cyclone: heavy rain and strong winds expected from tomorrow until Monday

An extensive Atlantic disturbance affecting the Mediterranean is being closely monitored, already responsible for intense storms between Morocco and Algeria. At least a week of widespread bad weather is predicted for the entire country, with the risk that the depression will evolve into a subtropical Mediterranean cyclone known as TLC (Tropical Like Cyclone).

From Friday, the low pressure will also affect the South and Sicily, bringing widespread and heavy rainfall. On Saturday, conditions will remain similar to those of Friday, with widespread precipitation over much of the territory. On Sunday, the cyclone is expected to persist in the South, while clearing skies are expected in the Central-North.

The relatively mild sea temperature favors the development of violent phenomena such as heavy rainfall and maritime storms. The warmth of the sea could indeed transform into energy, fueling these events and increasing the risk of rough seas on exposed coasts, especially those exposed to strong winds from the southeast.

Currently, the depression is located west of Sicily and will bring intense precipitation and strong winds. The first areas affected will be the western coasts of the island starting from Friday evening, while on Saturday the cyclone is expected to move towards the southeast area, hitting cities like Siracusa and Catania with rains that could last until Monday.
