Sicilian Airports, Minister Urso to Schifani: “Your reaction is inappropriate”

#Catania
“I honestly do not understand President Schifani’s reaction, with whom I have a long and established relationship. His response was truly discomposed in tone and manner, invoking who knows what local events that are not part of my evaluations. I was exclusively referring to the infrastructure planning that falls under the responsibility of SAC, in order to make Catania an international hub, and to the operational control of ENAC. I certainly was not referring to the management of the emergency, for which all relevant local and government bodies have made the utmost effort, which will also need to be evaluated when we return to normality. ” said the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, in response to the President of the Sicilian Region, who had described the minister’s evaluations of the Sicilian airport system as “sterile and instrumental polemics.”

“And in any case,” Urso emphasizes, “I have the institutional duty to point out the serious immediate and long-term repercussions on the Sicilian productive system, which the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy has addressed with public statements. Regarding the exorbitant airfare rates, we have actually shared some evaluations with President Schifani, seeking solutions within the limits of European rules, just as we are planning more comprehensive interventions with Minister Matteo Salvini. In this case, the primary responsibility lies with ENAC, which only a few hours ago, in response to direct intervention from MIMIT, through the renewed structure of the Price Guarantor, confirmed the presence of unfair commercial practices. So, maximum cooperation, as always, and no intention of creating a polemic. Just a willingness to solve problems in a structural way, as we have clearly demonstrated in Sicily since the beginning of the legislature.”
