Seventy hearts on the beach to protest against pediatric surgery department closure in Taormina

Seventy hearts on the beach of Giardini Naxos, equal to the number of deputies in the Sicilian Regional Assembly. This is the initiative of the parents of pediatric cardiac surgery in Taormina, scheduled for April 27 at 10 am to raise awareness among parliamentarians to fight against the closure of the center.

“The last derogation granted to the regional government for the maintenance of the center expires on July 31,” the parents say. “It is therefore necessary for the President of the Region, Renato Schifani, and all Sicilian deputies to ask the national government for the long-awaited derogation. Minister Schillaci has assured the full willingness of the government, but the official request of the Region is needed. We will not allow our children’s lives to be played with anymore, and we are tired of living in fear of not being able to have our children treated at the center that has always taken care of them.”

The hearts will be planted in an area granted for the event, inside the Lido di Naxos, in synergy with the harbor captaincy and the Sicilian demesne. The event will be attended by President Schifani, President of the Ars Gaetano Galvagno, all Sicilian deputies, and citizens.
