Sardinian climbers hit by rock in Macari, one airlifted to Palermo

After Monte Pellegrino, Macari. The technicians of the Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue were called this afternoon, on March 17th, in Macari, a fraction of San Vito Lo Capo, to rescue two climbers who had been hit by a large boulder which rolled down from the mountain above. The climbers, two tourists from Sardinia aged 35 and 45, were part of a group climbing on the cliffs above the area made famous by a Rai TV series starring actor Claudio Gioè.

The most seriously injured suffered suspected abdominal and pelvic trauma, while the other had an exposed fracture on his foot. Two teams from Palermo, alerted by the 118 emergency service, reached the injured, immobilized them and transported them to the road. The less seriously injured was taken by a 118 ambulance to Trapani hospital, while the other was airlifted by a 118 helicopter to Palermo.
