Sammartino meets with protesting farmers, urges national government intervention

Explain to me briefly the following article:

“I am here to gather the alarm cry of the farmers, the regional government is working on different fronts, both on improving irrigation systems, and on the possibility of approving extraordinary economic measures.” This was said by the regional Agriculture assessor Luca Sammartino this morning while meeting with the protestors of the permanent sit-in established on February 5th on the fast lane Sciacca-Palermo, at the crossroads of contrada Gulfa.

Speaking with farmers and breeders belonging to the Spontaneous Movement of the Belice Valley, Sammartino added that there also needs to be a concrete intervention from the national government. It is in this direction that the Region’s declaration of a state of emergency fits in. “We thank the assessor for coming to see us, we have given him a document containing the eighteen points of our protest, starting from the need for agricultural producers to have a more dignified income,” said the spokesman of the Spontaneous Movement Gaspare La Marca.
