Punishment for Fatal Collapse: Palermo Court Sentences Four in Via Bagolino Case

Antonino Fricano, Rosa Calvaruso, Maria Giovanna Costanza, and Maria Rosa Tuccio have been sentenced to three years in prison for manslaughter and negligence following the collapse of a building in Palermo in December 2012, resulting in the death of four people. The judge has also ordered the defendants to pay damages to the victims’ families and a provisional amount of 15,000 euros each to specific individuals. The defendants are also required to cover the legal costs and have been banned from public office for five years. The collapse was initially thought to be due to a gas leak but was later determined to be a structural failure. The buildings were illegally altered, with an additional floor and veranda added.
