Plaza dedicated to Major La Rosa, hero of Barcelona, who died in Afghanistan

This morning in Borgosesia, in the province of Vercelli, the Bersaglieri d’Italia square was dedicated to the memory of Major Giuseppe La Rosa, who was awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valor. Governor Alberto Cirio of Piedmont, who was present at the ceremony and parade with the Bersaglieri of Valsesia, wrote “We remembered a man who, at thirty years old, died in Afghanistan while shielded his fellow soldiers. We must pass on to our children the values for which our grandparents fought and promote peace, freedom, and memory to leave future generations a world slightly better than the one we found.” Major La Rosa, originally from Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, was killed by an explosive device on June 8, 2013 in Farah, western Afghanistan. In 2014, he was posthumously awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valor.
